Alamein International University students have successfully completed three pioneering artificial intelligence capstone projects on the YouLearnt learning platform, showcasing innovative solutions designed to streamline educational processes and enhance support services.
Under the academic guidance of Dr. Laila Shoukry and with technical oversight from YouLearnt's CTO, Sahl El-Kassas, three student teams unveiled their AI-driven tools:
1. Automated Quiz Answer-Option Generator
Developed by Ayten Hossam, Aya Adel, Aysha Mohamed, and Ahella Mohamed, this tool instantly proposes multiple-choice answers when a tutor inputs a quiz question. Tutors can specify whether a single correct answer or several are desired, and the tool generates plausible distractors alongside the correct option. This feature significantly reduces the time and effort required to craft high-quality assessments.
2. Course Description Text Generator
Created by Sara Ashraf Ragab, Ahmed Elmohamady Abdelrahman Amr, and Reham Atif, this writing assistant is tailored for group course tutors. Through a simple interface, trainers provide a few bullet points about their course objectives and content, and the AI produces polished, professional-grade course descriptions and goal statements within seconds. This accelerates course setup and ensures consistency in messaging.
3. 24/7 AI-Powered Support Hub
Built by Aya Tamer Ginidy, Mohamed Talat Elslmawy, Ahmed Mohamed Dawood, George Nashaat Mosaed, and Amr Khaled Gaber, this chatbot leverages advanced language models to answer frequently asked questions about courses, enrollment procedures, and technical issues. Available around the clock, the support hub alleviates pressure on YouLearnt’s human support team and delivers immediate assistance to learners.
As part of their capstone project, the team behind the AI-powered support chatbot shared their reflections on the collaborative experience. Team leader George Nashaat highlighted the project's impact on their professional growth:
"Working on the support chatbot for YouLearnt was a truly rewarding experience. Under the supervision of Eng. Sahl, we received consistent guidance that made our learning journey smooth and enriching.
We also owe much to Dr. Laila Shoukry, our course instructor, whose insightful teaching introduced us to valuable concepts and supported us throughout the process".
George claims: "Throughout the project, we developed practical skills and enhanced our teamwork abilities, gaining valuable experience in applying our knowledge to real-world scenarios. The clear direction and encouragement we received fostered a positive and collaborative environment, making the entire experience both valuable and enjoyable".
"Building the support chatbot allowed us to learn and apply essential tools and technologies such as deployment, working with APIs, and integrating with GitHub repositories.
This opportunity not only strengthened our technical skills but also boosted our confidence in building and delivering functional solutions in a team-oriented setting" he said.
“We designed this collaboration to benefit both the university and the platform,” said Yaser Selim, YouLearnt’s CEO. “For students, it’s invaluable real-world project experience; for us, it means integrating fresh AI-enabled features that improve the learning journey.”
Yaser Selim concluded: “By collaborating with Alamein students, we’re not only integrating cutting-edge AI features into YouLearnt but also investing in the next generation of innovators. This synergy accelerates product evolution and empowers learners worldwide with smarter, more personalized educational experiences.”
YouLearnt's CTO, Sahl El-Kassas, praised the collaborative process: “We guided the teams through agile development sprints, offering technical feedback while letting their creativity drive each solution.”
Dr. Laila Shoukry, who led the course, reflected on the experience: “AI-based programming is a project-based course where I ask my students to develop AI-powered applications with real, practical use. The focus is on delivering a complete, usable product leveraging the latest LLMs and RAG frameworks, and evaluating it with real users—rather than producing a research prototype. Our experience developing tools for YouLearnt was a valuable addition to three project teams this semester. Students were enthusiastic about building something that would actually be used and seen in action. They received direct weekly supervision from YouLearnt up until their final submission. All in all, it was a great experience—one I would love to replicate with more teams in the future.”
