From desk to destination: maximizing learning benefits through field trips and exploration How field trips shape an individual with great potential to grow, learn and explore

In the era of increasing online learning, traditional methods remain prevalent in most people's educational experiences. However, traditional learning can be enriched by various means, one of which is the incorporation of field trips. These trips, where students venture beyond the classroom limits to explore subjects first-hand, provide a beneficial break from typical teaching methods.
Field trips are essential for making learning enjoyable and engaging, fostering social growth, providing real-world exposure, and yielding academic benefits. Here is a wider view of field trips advantages:
1-
Real world exposure
Field trips offer students invaluable exposure to real-world experiences, enabling them to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. By immersing themselves in various environments, students gain a deeper understanding of how concepts studied in the classroom manifest in real life. Additionally, these excursions provide opportunities for self-discovery, allowing students to explore their interests and preferences first-hand.
A Research highlights the importance of experiential and sensory-based learning approaches. Experiential activities involve exploring, touching, listening, watching, and engaging with various stimuli to understand concepts better. This hands-on learning approach allows individuals to grasp their experiences and translate them into practical applications or outcomes. Field trips effectively harness these sensory experiences, offering students a rich learning environment that enhances comprehension and retention of knowledge (1)(2).
2- Social growth
Field trips not only enhance students' social skills but also foster stronger bonds among classmates. By encouraging students to move as a group rather than individuals, field trips promote teamwork and cooperation. Additionally, these outings teach students to take on greater responsibility and identify reliable peers they can depend on, further strengthening their interpersonal relationships and sense of community.
Overnight field trips have been found to significantly boost social growth and foster positive interactions among both students and teachers. By experiencing independence outside the confines of their home and classroom, students have the opportunity to develop valuable life skills and form lasting connections with their peers and educators (3)(4).
3- Academic impact
Students who participated in these field trips showed higher test scores, better grades, and performed better in class. It emphasizes the value of culturally enriching experiences outside the classroom in enhancing academic outcomes for students. So, schools have to direct their attention to the field trips because it is beneficial for their learners (5)(6).

In conclusion, field trips play a crucial role in enhancing education by providing students with real world exposure and offering opportunities for students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. It also enhances social growth and improves social skills with classmates. Finally, it has a positive impact on the students' academic levels.
