Peak performance: exploration of the tapestry of exercise, their contributions and impact for maximum potential Listing different types of exercise, how to make doing exercising more fun and making the most of them
Malaz Dhirar
Be it a professional athlete or someone just wishing to stay in shape, everyone has something to gain from exercise. It remains one of the pillars in the formation of a healthy lifestyle. The variety of exercise types are geared for specific needs and benefits tailored for everyone.
Exercise doesn’t have to be some draining, grueling routine where a person is completely drained afterwards. That’s the absolute worst way to do it. A simple 10-15 minutes a day devoted to exercise would do wonders for anyone. Even if it is hard, so long as one simply listens to their body and paces themselves well, a reasonable workout is well within reach (1)(2)(3).
Types of exercise
There are many ways and means to exercise. People tend to focus on perhaps one or two, not realizing that there could be a method more suitable to them that they’ve never even thought to try. It all depends on what they focus on and their benefits. A good way to take advantage of this is to try incorporating more than one kind of exercise. For example, a person can do tennis but also go swimming or dancing. The types of exercise include:
1- Aerobic; it involves giving the heart and lungs a workout to increase endurance. This type improves the cardiovascular system, boosting bone and muscle strength in the whole body and raising stamina to name a few benefits. Examples are cycling and dancing.
2- Agility; this aims to improve control while a person speeds up or down, like in tennis or hockey. Both are sports that involve a lot of positioning, speed and balance.
3- Flexibility; exercises that merge stretching, muscle and balance conditioning to improve motion range and joint health (4)(5).
Tips for making exercise fun
Exercise doesn’t just start and end at the workout, people watch what they eat and how they train. They have to proceed with caution in order to reap the fruits of exercise and avoid doing themselves harm. Even if one has trouble with a certain exercise, they just have to try. What really matters is progress, not perfection (6)(7).
The intricacies are plenty but so are the benefits. Improving sleep, lowering stress and managing weight to name a few examples. That being said, exercise does take plenty of work but no one said it couldn’t be enjoyable too. In fact, here are a few ways to do it:
1- Play; exercise doesn’t just involve things like jogging or weightlifting. Instead of working out, people can invite others for team sports for example. So it increases social interactions as well.
2- Relaxation; exactly what it sounds like. The body needs time to relax after exercise, promoting performance and well being. It promotes performance, focus and recovery while reducing stress.
3- Establishing a reward system: it’s to create a system of rewards to incentivize the efforts in the gym while exercising and weightlifting. Over time, The accumulated savings can be used to treat oneself.
Today’s pain will be tomorrow’s strength, a quote that is very much exemplified with exercise. Don’t forget that while it does take time and effort, a simple few minutes each day aside for a little workout are worth their weight in gold. No need for perfection, effort is what people need to shine in life.
