Writing is an intrinsic tool for society and humanity as a whole, yet one that tends to be easily taken for granted. The benefits of writing go far beyond mere communication. It can help weave history, culture and even identity. Even those who don’t partake in the practice have been affected by writing at some point in life.
A person doesn’t have to be naturally talented to benefit from writing, practice makes perfect. Everyone starts from zero but they can improve with some work. Writing can be very useful in many sides of life, it bolsters curiosity about the world and leads to untapped reservoirs of knowledge. It is a tool that captures the spectrum of being human.
Significance of writing
Writing isn’t just for professionals or those interested to learn, anyone can gain something from it. It may not be easy but investing time to hone writing can be very advantageous, some benefits include:
1-Personal growth; writing is a window for proper self-expression, paving the way for self-reflection, communication and confidence.
2-Captivating storytelling skills; storytelling comes in handy with entertainment, persuasion and communication. It makes a good impact when communicating information in the workplace as well.
3-Sharper focus and discipline; the writing process involves weaving ideas and words to make sentences, requiring a great amount of focus. Getting accustomed to such focus overtime makes concentrating on any task comes naturally.
4-An aid in conflict resolution; a surprising amount of conflicts can start because of a simple misunderstanding in communication. Writing allows the involved parties to express themselves and resorting to diplomacy to settle things.
5-Deeper understanding of a language; writing is an excellent mean to gaining proficiency with a language. It provides concrete examples where one gets to practice, expanding their vocabulary, grammar, syntax and even feedback to strengthen experience with the language (1)(2)(3).

Writing is an indispensable tool in education, serving as the foundation of expression students achieve through their academic years. It improves the student’s ability to recall information while also furthering creativity and self-expression. Not only does it improves reading comprehension and fluency, it also provides students with a better understanding of the subject. Writing sharpens fine motor skills and even improves persuasive skills. It helps increase learning in class, making it an increasingly important tool for educational success (4).
Writing appears to be a simple act but its impact and influence are truly profound. It’s not just about communication or a string of words together, but a window for multiple possibilities. A person doesn’t even need to be a professional to make the most of it, simply taking part in the practice is enough. Anyone could have a story waiting to be told, all it takes is one step to let it be known.
